Hathersage Gala

I turned up for my first race in over 5 months expecting some pain and suffering and I wasn't wrong.

The conditions underfoot were worse than 5 months ago despite it being the height of summer. Is this what they mean by "an Indian Summer"? ie, monsoon season...

Stood milling around nervously at the start, I said I would at least be first Glossopdale. Then I looked up to see Chris standing next to me, and I knew that would now be a tall order!

We set off, and in true Cadel Evans style, I put in an early attack. I pushed on up the climb, picking my way through the field up to about 600'. Then I blew. Meanwhile Chris, in a more Wigginesque tempo, breezed past near the summit and eased away. In the end I was happy to limit my losses to just 1 minute.
